Arrested with 160 oxycodone tablets and fake prescriptions for “zombie drug”
Investigation revealed possible links to opioid trafficking facilitated by fake prescriptions and potentially supported by some doctors.
He had already been in the sights of carabinieri from the anti-substitution nucleus for a while, a young man from Caronno Pertusella, who caught their attention because of his unusual stash of painkillers. During a search, officers found as many as 160 tablets of oxycodone, a powerful opioid known for its addictive capacity, hidden in various places in the house, including his mother's drawers. This drug, even stronger than morphine, contributed to about 100,000 overdose deaths in the United States between 2020 and 2021, raising concerns about its illicit distribution.
The young man, defended by attorney Federica Liparoti, was questioned by preliminary investigation judge Stefano Colombo. During questioning, he stated that he used oxycodone recreationally, denying that he was running a dealing business. However, his contacts with websites dedicated to users of these substances have raised doubts about his real involvement, with investigations appearing to extend far beyond his personal case.
Investigations indicate the existence of opioid trafficking, facilitated by falsified medical prescriptions and potentially orchestrated with the complicity of some doctors. This situation is reminiscent of an operation dismantled in May 2021 by the Catania DDA, where an organization resold drugs in the United States, where opioid use has recently been contained. Nas carabinieri began tracking the young man as part of a broader strategy to counter the abuse of heroin-related painkillers, similar to fentanyl, nicknamed the “zombie drug,” which has become a serious social problem.
In addition to the stash of painkillers, carabinieri discovered a fake red prescription pad, identical to official ones, used by the young man to obtain the prescriptions needed to obtain the drug. The investigation continues, with the goal of unraveling a wider network of opioid trafficking and the risks associated with an ever-expanding phenomenon.
